3 Danish Nisse, Gnome, Hanging Christmas Decorations

Regular price $8.00
One of the main Christmas characters in Denmark is a mischievous gnome named Nisse.
According to folklore Nisse would live in the lofts of barns and old farmhouses and enjoy playing jokes, but, provided the farmer and his family treated him well, would also be very helpful and bring good luck to the farm.
Nisse would generally wear grey, woollen clothes, a red hat, red stockings, and clogs.
To this day it is still customary to leave out a bowl of rice pudding or porridge with butter, sugar and cinnamon for him on Christmas Eve to keep him sweet and to avoid him playing too many horrid jokes on the family - he can get very grumpy and even move out if the family forgets!
However, usually Nisse is kind and helpful and enjoys being good to the children and helping on the farm.
